Description

The International Youth Internship Program (IYIP) is a component of an employment program for Canadian graduates (ages 19 to 30 inclusive), which is part of the Career Focus stream of the Government of Canada's Youth Employment and Skills Strategy (YESS). Canada's YESS provides Canadian youth with tools and experience they need to launch successful careers.

The 2021 IYIP is designed to offer young Canadians with the opportunity to gain professional experience through conducting remote international development work. The objective of the IYIP is to support sustainable international development projects, in partnership with developing country partners, by Canadian professional associations, educational associations, non-governmental organizations, and private companies.

The program is intended to:

-provide eligible Canadian youth with international experience, skills and knowledge that will prepare them for future employment;

-increase employment opportunities by promoting awareness among Canadian organizations of the advantages of integrating young Canadian professionals into their structures and programs;

-provide opportunities for Canadian youth to promote Canada's international development efforts both in Canada and abroad; and

-contribute to the advancement of the Department's mandate to reduce poverty and inequality, promote human rights and increase sustainable development, and to meet the Department's priorities for official development assistance.

Eligibility:

-candidates must be between the ages of 19-30 inclusive at the time of final selection 30th June, 2021

-be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident

-be legally entitled to work in Canada

-have not previously participated in the International Youth Internship Program (IYIP)

UPDATE:

For this year's internships, all work will be done remotely from Canada. There will be no travel to UN partner agencies overseas, as determined by the Government of Canada's travel advisory warning to avoid all non-essential travel (https://travel.gc.ca/travelling/advisories). The entirety of the internship will be performed remotely, and chosen candidates must have reliable internet connections and their own devices. 

For 2021, the JPC internship placements will be paid internships. Only the chosen candidates will be compensated an hourly wage, and considered as UNA-Canada staff, following Government of Canada employment guidelines. (Only the chosen candidates will receive the details of the recent update as pertains to remuneration)
